Let’s “Grinder”, “Grindr”!

In modern society, people, especially Generation Z, could tend to be more inclusive and acceptable with LGBTQ+ groups, and some companies have designed specific products for these groups. In my experience, minor people could have used ‘THE L’, ‘LESDO’, and ‘BLUED’ in my home country, while in France, people use different social apps to connect with each other, such as Grindr.
I asked my friends using Grindr what their purposes were to use the social application during the pandemic. The answers that surprised me are quite simple– chatting or seeing if there exist some persons who are understanding and like-minded. Only after knowing each other do they consider dating during the pandemic, especially for lockdown, it was too hard to go outside. Except for the direct hook-up, other purposes are unsophisticated. The quick-paced life and busy study or work give them little chance to know and come into touch with new friends. Using dating apps can better improve efficiency and save time.
Some friends tell me that they feel very fatigued in real life because many people wear “masks”, which is difficult to distinguish between true and false. Sometimes in Grindr, matching others through photos and simple individual profiles makes them relaxed and communicate without shackles.
At this moment, I seem to understand the meaning of Grindr: simple chatting can truly get people moved. The most challenging cover within hearts could be dissolved gradually when people share every sunrise and sunset, every song and unimportant things. This is not simply mixing people and making them social, but also searching for their soft part inside themselves to let them be willing to believe, show themselves and pursue the reality.
Through grinder, the Grindr world has been born.
The emergence of Grindr aims to create an engaging, open and safe platform for the adult queer community in order to help them to find themselves. It also seeks to create an authentic and safe environment to promote the development of diversity, inter-respect and sexually active campaigns. The term G4E means Grindr for Equality, which is one of the brand concepts, with the purpose of helping people with the same sexual preference and gender identity to build a safer and more tolerant world. In the Grindr community, if you treat others with honesty and respect, you will find that there are many people around you who you can talk to and communicate with, which may also make you establish an in-deep relationship. But if you are not sincere, cheat or insult others, your ID could be banned.
The philosophy of Grindr is that all the members should be treated fairly and equally, regardless of gender, figure and other physical features, apart from which everything is discrimination. Besides, in order to make the brand more diverse and inclusive, Grindr actively cooperates with LGBTQ+ employees and the whole community to have a deeper understanding of the users’ demands and needs in order to bring better products and improve user experience. Meanwhile, Grindr also shoulders social responsibility. In the digital age, when improper behaviors become more and more common and sophisticated, Grindr appeals to parents and other adults, including users, to protect the minors away from the platform.
From Grinder to Grindr, it is not only the birth of a name but also the deep meaning behind it. It makes a crowd of minor people far away from bias and discrimination and finds the real community which belongs to them and agree with them. This fictitious platform gathers people from all over the world and from various cultural backgrounds. They can express themselves with freedom and share their experiences. The online and offline dating can be realized, pursuing their own soul harbor without caring about others’ opinions.
