The bliss of finding one’s life long partner can , most of the time, be a nightmare. From communication problems to cheaters to heartbreaks, human beings go through it all. But when we add the digital element into the mix, the task gets ten times harder. Companies left and right propose myriads of potential products to address this problem but none of them were effective enough or satisfying enough, until Hinge, an app that specifically gives millenials the opportunity to build long term and strong relationships in an era where dating is all about swiping and fast paced dating.
Hinge, aka the app designed to be deleted, was created in 2012 and launched in 2013 under the idea of creating an app that aims to find something more serious and more meaningful. Justin Mcleod was growing tired of watching people swipe left and right in their quest to find a partner. Thr app was first launched in Washington DC and only on IOS, then it expanded to the rest of the US states and became available on Android as well then finally knew a global expansion to the rest of the world
True to their opinion on generic dating apps and to defeat casual dating, Hinge had no swiping and no timer on matches. The app aims to let its users have the freedom in finding deep and meaningful connections through showing mutual interest between users in order for them to start a real conversation. The particularity of this app lies with the fact that they want users to engage with each other through responding to profiles and leaving comments.
It is important to highlight that the company was bought by Match group ( a company that operates more than 45 dating services worldwide including Tinder, Match.com, Plenty Of Fish (POF), OKCupid, Twoo, Meetic and Our time.) by 51% in 2018 and by 2019 the group 100% of Hinge.
In their mission to find people’s matches, Hinge sets three crucial values, that are also the basis of every relationships, which are:
Authenticity: Hinge is all about being transparent and to never hide one’s emotions, words, actions and most of all intentions
Courage: Because achievements necessitate taking risks high aims and tough challenges
Empathy: Listening openly and speaking with care are the core fundamentals to establishing meaningful and considerate relationships
To implement these three values, Hinge believes in five principles cited as the following:
Designed to be deleted: Hinge’s main mission and goal is to help people find their one true love and not leave people confused to swipe left and right carelessly
Radical trust: Trust directly means open transparent communication
Love the leap: Setting big audacious goals that have to be achieved, but failure is also part of the game
Guided by principles: setting principles is basically setting a ground for Hinge to achieve their goals, resolve conflicts and make decisions
People with heart: Hinge makes sure to hire people who put their heart on their sleeves and incorporate their core values
Hinge is very clear about it’s mission and believes in deep meaningful relationships after being really exhausted of the superficial world and the superficial aspect dating apps have, so ready for your last first date?
